A non-for profit local development organization working in Hunza to improve the socio-economic base and living conditions of the rural population of the Hunza valley with special focus on women, artisans, small producers and other disadvantaged groups such as people with special needs. It works in different fields which include:
a) Promotion and revival of traditional crafts involving women and other disadvantaged groups of the society;
b) Use of information technology for poverty reduction and development in rural areas;
c) Revival and promotion of festivals, arts and culture;
d) rehabilitation of people with special needs;
e) Capacity building of local institutions dealing with environmental issues in Hunza. KADO Internet Services is an initiative of KADO's Project on Information and Communication Technology for Development (ICT4D) funded by IDRC Canada. Initial technical support is being provided by COMSATS. KADO's mission is to develop local capacities for equitable and sustainable development and contribute towards reduction of poverty in the area. ICT4D aims to contribute to this mission by experimenting the promotion of sustainable livelihoods and extradition of extreme poverty in the remote areas through action research in the application and integration of information and communication technology.
